Project Overview
Rodeo Ranch Energy Storage (Rodeo Ranch) is a 300 MW / 600 MWh state-of-the-art battery energy storage system that contributes real-time energy and frequency-stabilizing services to the ERCOT electricity system. It is ideally located on roughly 13 acres of land near Pecos, Texas, where it interconnects near critical transmission infrastructure, adjacent to TNMP’s 138kV Worsham Substation.
Rodeo Ranch Energy Storage enhances grid reliability by drawing and storing energy from the grid during off-peak periods and releasing it back to the grid when energy demand is at its highest. The battery participates in the marketplace as a “merchant project,” competing with all other generation sources to provide the lowest cost for ratepayers.
The facility’s strategic location near high electricity supply from various resources allows the facility to perform additional grid services that enhance energy efficiency in Reeves County and the overall transmission grid. Modernizing the grid will improve quality of life and spur regional economic development, leading to greater prosperity for the community and Texas as a whole.
This project contributes to Plus Power’s 800 MW / 1,575 MWh portfolio of battery energy storage in ERCOT to help respond to energy needs, soak up energy when it’s abundant and prices are low, and inject that energy back to the grid when it’s needed and energy prices are rising.
