Local Outreach
Texas and the ERCOT grid are facing unprecedented energy demand. Peak demand of 80 gigawatts (GW) used to be rare. In fact, the Texas grid reached it only once from 2021 to 2022. But according to ERCOT’s October 2023 review of summer demand, peak demand was over 80 gigawatts in 26 out of 31 days—just in August 2023—and for 49 days all told in 2023. Texas increasingly needs fast, flexible-dispatch resources to respond.
Plus Power began developing Rodeo Ranch in 2021 with a focus on meeting the capacity needs of Texas’ electricity system and the customers it serves. We have collaborated with local authorities and first responders throughout the project’s development and construction phases to obtain feedback, answer questions, and perform onsite training for local first responders. After starting project operations in December 2023, we strive to be an excellent neighbor.
Community Benefits
Rodeo Ranch will continue to be a valuable asset to the surrounding community for decades to come. The project provides necessary capacity and grid reliability services to the state with no air polluting emissions. Additionally, Rodeo Ranch has little impact on neighboring businesses or the community at large; as a static facility, the project generates insignificant traffic and does not require municipal services. Significant project benefits to the community include:
High-paying construction and O&M jobs
Enhanced resiliency from a new, state-of-the-art power resource
Expanded property tax base for the local district
